SİMON, Neil (1927) ABD’li oyun yazarı. Güldürüleri ve müzikalleri ile tanınmıştır.

Marvin Neil Simon 4 Temmuz 1927’de New York’ta doğdu. De Witt Clinton High School’dan mezun oldu. New York Üniversitesi’nde mühendislik öğrenimini sürdürürken orduya girdi. 1946’da ordudan ayrıldıktan sonra bir süre Warner Brothers Pictures film şirketinde çalıştı. 1955’te Broadway’de sahnelenen ilk oyunu ilgi görmedi. 1956-1960 arasında çeşitli televizyon programlarının metinlerini yazdı. Fars türündeki oyunu Come Blow Your Horn (Borusunu Öttüren) ile adım duyurdu. En iyi yapıtlarından olan ve 1966’da sahnelenen The Star-Spangled Girl’de (“Yıldızlarla Bezenmiş Kız”) güldürüden bir ölçüde uzaklaşıp daha ciddi sorunları ele aldı. Broadway sahnelerinde aynı anda dört oyunu birden oynanan tek oyun yazarı olarak ün yaptı.

Film senaryoları da yazan, ayrıca birçok oyunu televizyon dizilerine konu olan ya da sinemaya uyarlanan Simon, yapıtlarında genellikle Amerikan yaşam biçimini olumlu-olumsuz yanlarıyla ve bir güldürü havası içinde yansıtmış, kadın-erkek ilişkilerini de çeşitli yönleriyle ele almıştır.
